Former North Carolina and now Denver Bronco defensive tackle Sylvester Williams was grinning from cheek to cheek when he arrived to Dove Valley this afternoon. This is because the #28 pick in the 2013 draft was able to work out a deal with the Denver Broncos that will keep him in Denver for the next four years.
The four-year deal is worth up to $7.6 million with $6.1 million guaranteed. The contract also includes a $3.9 million signing bonus.
The 6-foot-2, 313 pound defensive tackle wasn't able to join his teammates for the first practice of training camp this morning. However, he is expected to join the team in a walkthrough practice later in the evening.
Ultimately it comes down to performance, but as the Broncos' 1st round pick, Williams will be given opportunity to earn good chunks of playing time this year. If his work ethic is as strong as it was in North Carolina, don't be shocked to see him starting before the year is done.
