The Colorado Rockies got their first win of the series against the Milwaukee Brewers Friday night 8-3. it was a complete game for the first time in a long time as the offense and pitching were both clicking, with pitcher Tyler Chatwood leading the charge.
Rockies P Tyler Chatwood had yet another impressive game Friday night. The pitcher would go 7 big innings while allowing just 2 runs on 6 hit. He also struck out a career high 11. Chatwood has been pitching like an all-star for the Rockies lately. In the last 4 games, Chatwood is 3-1 with the only loss being an 8 inning 0-1 affair against the Dodgers. He hasn't allowed more than 2 runs while going at least 6 innings in those 4 games. Chatwood is 7-4 with a 2.48 ERA on the season.
Chatwood would also help himself on the offensive side with some strong batting. Chatwood was 2-2 with 2 RBIs against the Brewers. The other bats didn't let him down Friday night like they had prior, however. The rest of the offense would account for 7 runs on 6 hits. Rookie third basemen Nolan Arenado had 2 hits and knock in 2 runs for the night. First basemen Todd Helton also had 2 hits on the night while knocking in a run.
If the Rockies hope to be in contention late into the season, the offense will need to pick up like Friday. If they can and the pitching continues the pace as it did in July, this team will be tough to beat.
