The Denver Broncos are exactly a week away from their first preseason game on 8/8/2013. They will be traveling to San Francisco to play the 49ers. It will be the first time fans will get to see the Broncos play since the heartbreaking loss to the Baltimore Ravens in mid January. In preparation to get into football shape for the game, Bronco players have been enduring training camp for a week now.
As expected, your Eric Decker's, Peyton Manning's, Von Miller's and Demaryius Thomas' of the team have looked really strong. However, there are a few players turning some heads that you might not be expecting. Based on their performances in training camp, it is worth keeping an eye on these three guys in preseason.
1. Brock Osweiler - Brock Osweiler's name continues to come up in training camp for the right reasons. The 6-7, 2nd year QB has made a significant jump from year 1 to year 2. Whether it's been hitting Demaryius Thomas for deep touchdowns or throwing across his shoulder with great accuracy and plenty of zip, the 2012 2nd round pick has looked good. With Osweiler's performance in camp, it will be interesting to see how he performs against the Niners defense next Thursday.
2. Tavarres King - It has not taken the 2013 5th round pick long to start impressing his coaches and quarterbacks. King has made the circus catches as well as 50 yards+ touchdowns from both Manning and Osweiler. King was a big playmaker in college, using his explosive speed often to beat defensive backs. He averaged over 19 yards per reception in Georgia. If King can continue that trend in his 4 preseason games, he may find himself getting good chunks of playing time in the regular season..
3. Duke Ihenacho - If you don't know Duke Ihenacho yet, that may change soon. The safety has been getting praise from both teammates and coaches. Champ Bailey was quite generous what he thought of Ihenacho's play. " He has been impressive. He is getting better every day," said Bailey. Ihenacho has been somewhat of a ballhawk . He has even terrorized Manning in camp, although he wisely has been playing it down in order to not upset the Hall of Fame quarterback. If there's one position of uncertainty, it is the safety positions. Ihenacho finds himself in a five-way fight between him, Mike Adams, David Bruton, Quinton Carter and Rahim Moore. If Ihenacho can impress in preseason, he may just find himself starting for the Broncos.
