The Denver Broncos will play the San Francisco Forty Niners tonight at 7 PM MT to open up preseason for both teams. This is an exciting match up, even for preseason. Both teams are favorites to make it to the Super Bowl according to Vegas.
The Broncos do not expect to play many of their starters more than a handful of minutes into the first. Broncos fans will be seeing QB Peyton Manning on the sideline most of the night.
That means backup QB Brock Osweiler will get a lot of playing time. Osweiler has been one of the brighter spots in Broncos training camp. He has been making a lot of big plays on a consistent basis. They say the difference in Osweiler last year to this year is vast.
Tonight is a great opportunity for Osweiler to play quality minutes against a disciplined, well coached defense. If he can perform like he has in training camp, Broncos fans should be much more optimistic about their future QB to be. It might also be a bit of vindication for John Elway. The executive vice president of football operations is believed to be the biggest influence on deciding to take Osweiler.
The Denver Broncos selected Brock Osweiler in the 2nd round in the 2012 draft. Many media and fans were very critical of the move at the time. The collective thought was the Broncos reached to pick the QB out of Arizona State. There was also a belief that the Broncos needed to address an immediate need with the 2nd round pick and Osweiler was certainly not that. Osweiler can start proving them wrong starting tonight.
